A relic of an earlier age, this Protocrena<\/em> species was only recently discovered in 2020 by occlupanologist E. Welby, who noted its great similarity to P. obtusilateri<\/em>, though the oral groove on P. escharops<\/em> is smaller.\u00a0 Specific name comes from the very faint dimpled pattern that cover its integument, which is only visible when held up to light and gently wiggled before the viewer.
