Multiple observations of occlupanologists worldwide reported a large occlupanid found attached to bags of rabbit hay, and it was initially assumed to be Megapanis gregjubyi, first discoverd in 2002. However, upon closer scrutiny, it was revealed that the oral groove is a good 2mm deeper. Its status as a full species was the subject of some debate. Is M. sonorus<\/em> a subspecies of gregjubyi or its evolutionary successor? While M. gregjubyi<\/em> is most often found around picnic tables and in hoards, M. sonorus is solidly associated with pet food stores. This combination of morphometric and ecological distinctions are enough to warrant its designation as a species on its own. Curiously, a red specimen was also found by A.
