Family
Mycognathidae
“Mushroom Jaw”

While overall sharing many morphological traits with toxodentids, the distinctive Mycognathidae are proposed as a taxonomic family in their own right due to several factors. The connection of the lateral dential processes are sloped, the oral groove has vastly different proprotions that give it a mushroom-like shape, and it has a beveled outer edge.  The DWORC has proposed Family status based on a single holotype specimen. We at HORG look forward to more specimens rounding out this new and exciting discovery within the Occlupanida.
