External morphology

Large with chiseled outer edge. 43 mm x 35.5 mm. Thick integument, tough and pitted.

Discovered in 2023 by field researcher J. Huang  on the ground in New York City’s Chinatown. Several other researchers have reported this species of late, all found away from any host: on roadsides, in hoarded collections, and atop grocery freezers. It is theorized that, like many large Protocrena species such as P. pachyplatos, it takes part in a large scale migrations across urban landscapes. Evidence of this is written in the pitting and scrapes upon its thick hide. Scholars are still piecing together its mysterious life cycle.
