Discovered by researchers from the Ontario Syntherid Collection and Research (OSCR). Specimens of T. caudigera were found among a colony of other archignathaceans, roaming loose near a bulk pet treats display. Some months later, another store of the same grocery chain was surveyed as part of a field expedition. A similar pet treat display was found, but the occlupanopsids collected displayed a minutely altered morphology to its oral groove, resulting subtly rounder oral hooks. This has been recorded as T. caudigera var. dinotos for future studies. It is unknown however if this occlupanopsid has other localized variations, or if this is a stable ecotype. All collected specimens bore large pale amicula with red markings. Due to the delicate nature of these occlupanopsids, archivists from OSCR advise against removal of the amicula.
