A. thinicola was discovered by M. Daniel in a Michigan grocery store outside of the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. Once under review it became apparent that this species was collected several times before, but misplaced each time before naming, due to a faulty filing system. It has now been officially named, and the gaps in the specimen drawer are now thoroughly taped shut.
